Driving Directions
For a weekend section hike, you may want to bring two vehicles to the trail so that you can shuttle
yourselves from one end of your chosen section to the other. First, you will need to park your
“finish hike vehicle” at your section’s northern terminus and then drive your “start hike vehicle” down
to your section’s southern terminus.

Northern Terminus / Park Finish Hike Vehicle First
22.9 ~ FS 603A TRAILHEAD
    Begin from the old downtown district of Sylacauga, AL at the intersection of AL 21 and AL 148.
    Go south on AL 21 for 1.9 miles to CR 511. Turn left.
    Go 3.3 miles to Trammel Motorway / FS 603. Turn Left.
    Go 1.4 miles to FS 603A. Turn right.
    Go 0.6 miles to a fork in the road with a gate blocking the left fork. This is the FS 603A
    Trailhead parking area. Please don’t block the gate.

Southern Terminus / Park Start Hike Vehicle
13.1 ~ AL 21 / CR 41 TRAILHEAD
    From the FS 603A Trailhead parking area, go 0.6 miles back out to FS 603. Turn left.
    Go 1.9 miles to CR 511. Turn Left.
    Go 2.3 miles to CR 4. Turn right.
    Go 5.5 miles to the AL 21 / CR 41 Trailhead. You should ask for permission to park here at Slim
    and Slicks Bar-B-Que.

    The north trail goes straight across AL 21 on CR 41.
13.3 ~ PASS CR 74
13.8 ~ PASS HIGH TENSION POWER LINE
15.1 ~ PASS CR 74
15.2 ~ US 280 CROSSING
    Go straight across this 4 lane highway on CR 41.
16.7 ~ PASS CR 66
    CR 41 has now become CR 4 at Holman Crossroads.
18.6 ~ CR 511
    Go left on CR 511 at the stop sign.
20.4 ~ PASS ROCKY TOWER ROAD
    This road is on the right.
20.9 ~ TRAMMEL MOTORWAY / FS 603
    Turn right on the motorway.
21.0 ~ NORFOLK SOUTHERN RR CROSSING
21.3 ~ POWER LINE CROSSING
21.8 ~ FS 603 / END OF PAVEMENT
    You have now crossed over the southwest boundary of the Talladega National Forest.
    Continue on FS 603.
22.3 ~ FS 603A
    Turn right on FS 603A. For the time being, thru hikers can bypass this turn to the trailhead
    and continue ahead on FS 603 up to AL 148 (Section 3, mile 26.1).
22.9 ~ FS 603A TRAILHEAD
    When you come to the fork in the road, with a FS gate at the left fork, you are at the trailhead
    parking area.
