Driving Directions
For a weekend section hike, you may want to bring two vehicles to the trail so that you can shuttle
yourselves from one end of your chosen section to the other.

First, you will need to park your “finish hike vehicle” at your section’s northern terminus and then drive
your “start hike vehicle” down to your section’s southern terminus.

The driving directions begin by guiding you from a nearby town to the northern terminus, followed by
directions from there down to the southern terminus, where you’ll start your hike.

Be aware that out on the road you’ll find very few signs pointing the way. Your odometer / trip meter
is going to become your best friend. Please use it.

Also be aware that most of the section trailheads are in pretty isolated areas. Any valuables you plan
to leave in your vehicle should be hidden from view.

13.1 ~ AL 21 / CR 41 TRAILHEAD ~ NORTHERN TERMINUS
    PARK FINISH HIKE VEHICLE FIRST
    Begin in the old downtown district of Sylacauga at the intersection of AL 21 and AL 148.
    Go south on AL 21 6.0 miles to Stewartville, AL at the intersection of CR 41, just past Slim and
    Slicks Bar-B-Que, on the right.
    Park your finish hike vehicle here. Day or overnight parking may be available at Slim and Slicks
    Bar-B-Que.

0.0 ~ FLAGG MOUNTAIN TRAILHEAD ~ SOUTHERN TERMINUS
    PARK START HIKE VEHICLE
    From the AL 21 / CR 41 Trailhead, turn right on CR 41.
    Go 0.2 miles to the stop sign. Turn left. You are still on CR 41.
    Go 6.4 miles to the 4 way stop sign in Weogulfga, AL. Turn right on CR 56.
    Go 3.3 miles to the 4 way stop sign in Unity, AL. Turn left on CR 55.
    Go 0.8 miles to the first dirt road on the left, Flagg Mountain Road. Turn left.
    Go 1.7 miles to the Cabin Road, on the left - continue on Flagg Mountain Road, to the right.
    Go 0.7 miles to the top of Flagg Mountain. The gated CCC Tower driveway will be on your left.
    Park your start hike vehicle here. There is no parking area as of August, 2007 but there are
    places to park on the edge of the road without blocking it or the tower driveway.

Southern Terminus / Begin Hike
13.1 ~ AL 21 / CR 41 TRAILHEAD ~ TT
    Starting from the Slim and Slicks side of AL 21, the road walk begins by going straight across
    AL 21 on CR 41.
    You can go left on AL 21 50 yards to Slim and Slicks Bar-B-Que, on the left. Open Thursday
    Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
    TT ~ Go left (north) on AL 21 appx. 6.0 miles to Sylacauga, AL.
13.3 ~ PASS CR 74
13.8 ~ PASS HIGH TENSION POWER LINE
15.1 ~ PASS CR 74
15.2 ~ US 280 CROSSING
    The road walk goes straight across the 4 lane highway.
16.7 ~ PASS CR 86 / HOLMAN CROSSROADS
    Somewhere around here CR 41 has now become CR 4.
18.6 ~ CR 511 ~ CS, TT
    Go left on CR 511 at the stop sign.
    CS ~ Go Left on CR 511 5.6 miles to a large convenience store at AL 21.
    TT ~ Go left on CR 511 7.5 miles to Sylacauga, AL
20.4 ~ PASS ROCKY TOWER ROAD
    This road is on the right.
20.9 ~ TRAMMEL MOTORWAY / FS 603
    Turn right on the motorway.
21.0 ~ NORFOLK SOUTHERN RR CROSSING
21.3 ~ POWER LINE CROSSING
21.8 ~ END OF PAVEMENT
    You have now crossed over the southwest boundary into the Talladega National Forest.
22.3 ~ FS 603A
    Turn right on FS 603A.
22.9 ~ FS 603A TRAILHEAD
    When you come to the fork in the road with a gate at the left fork, you are at the trailhead
    parking area.
