Hikers on the Trail
You will find two hot spots on the Pinhoti. They are the Cheaha State Park - Cheaha
Wilderness area in Section 6 (7) and the Pine Glen Campground - Coleman Lake area in
Section 10 (3). In 1999 Dugger Mountain, in Section 11 (2), was designated as a
Wilderness area and more and more hikers are finding their way up there also. As for
the rest of the trail, it is fairly common to see soloist and small groups of 2 or 3
wandering around all year.
Then there are always SCOUT TROOPS seen from one end of the trail to the other. We
appreciate their leadership role in Leave No Trace, LNT, ethics and also their bridge
projects and trail work. Their presence is always a welcome sight.
In general though, there is plenty of solitude here on the Pinhoti Trail. About the only
distraction will be an occasional plane flying over; probably just some guy wishing he
was down where you are!
