The Pinhoti Trail
A Southeast Region Appalachian Trail Connector
Hikers on the Trail
You will find several high traffic sections on the Pinhoti during
the spring and fall:
Cheaha Wilderness ~ Section 6
Cheaha State Park ~ Section 7
Pine Glen Campground ~ Section 10
Coleman Lake Campground ~ Section 10
Dugger Mountain Wilderness ~ Section 11
Simms Mountain Rail Trail ~ Sections 18 - 19
Sloppy Floyd State Park ~ Section 20
Keown Falls ~ Section 23
Pilcher’s Pond ~ Section 24
Cohutta Wilderness ~ Section 29
As for the rest of the trail, it is fairly common to see soloist and small groups of 2 or 3
wandering around all year.
Then there are always SCOUT TROOPS seen from one end of the trail to the other. We
appreciate their leadership role in Leave No Trace, LNT, ethics and also their bridge
projects and trail work. Their presence is always a welcome sight.
In general though, there is plenty of solitude here on the Pinhoti Trail. About the only
distraction will be an occasional plane flying over; probably just some guy wishing he was
down where you are!
