Dugger Mountain Tower
Location: Section 11 (on trail)
Trail Mile: 142.5

In the early 2000's this Tower was sold to a private citizen and relocated because of the

mile up to the top.

Rattlesnake Mountain Tower
Location: Section 10 (off trail)
Trail Mile: 129.5
Elevation: 1640'
Status: Standing

Driving Directions:
I have not been to this site yet but I have made the assumption that this Tower is still
standing. I will not give up hope unless I find either the dead body or a grave!! These
directions and measurements are accurate up to USFS 536. The distance from the
beginning of USFS 536 down to the site is appx. I'll verify this info soon.

Exit I ~ 20 at US 431, east of Oxford. Go north 0.3 miles to US 78. Turn right. Go 5.3
miles to just before the overhead bridge. Turn left. Go to the stop sign at AL 281. Go
straight across onto USFS 500. Go 2.1 miles to USFS 531. Turn left. Go 5.0 miles to
USFS 500. Turn left. Go 4.9 miles to where USFS 500 turns left (the first paved road
on the left). Turn left. Go straight 0.8 miles to USFS 536 (the first dirt road on the left
after the pavement ends). Turn left. Go appx. 2 miles to the dead end / turnaround at the
tower site. There is a gate here at the beginning of USFS 536 and you should plan on
walking to the site from here.

Bankhead Tower
Location: Section 9 (off trail)

Horseblock Mountain Tower
Location: Section 7 (off trail)
Trail Mile: 94.5
Elevation: 1504'

already at this red light. Go straight across on CR 24. Go 7.9 miles to just before the
overhead bridge. Turn left. Go to the stop sign at AL 281. Turn left. Go 1.2 miles to the
first dirt road on the right, which is just past the large paved Observation Area on the
left. There is a gate at the beginning of the dirt road so plan on walking up to the site.
The Tower is about 1/4 mile up the dirt road. You will come to a fork up near the top.
Take the right fork.

Bunker Tower (Cheaha State Park)

Burgess Point Tower
Location: Section 5 (on trail)
Trail Mile: 64.4
Elevation: 1870'
Status: Missing

Driving Directions:
In the 1960's this tower was relocated to Dugger Mountain to replace the old 30'
wodden tower.

Exit I ~ 20 at AL 21, in Oxford. If you are coming from Atlanta, go under the bridge to
the first red light. Turn left on CR 24. If you are coming from Birmingham, you are
already at this red light. Go straight across on CR 24. Go 7.9 miles to just before the
overhead bridge. Turn left. Go to the stop sign at AL 281. Turn right. Go 15.2 miles to the
trailhead parking area / end of pavement. Continue straight past the parking area onto the
dirt road that goes uphill, which is USFS 600. The tower site is 2.3 miles south of Adams
Gap on USFS 600 but is no longer accessible by road with ordinary vehicles.

You can easily drive any type of car down 600 about a mile to where some new houses are
being built and park on the side of the road. You'll have to walk the remainder of the way
(about 1.3 miles) to the Pinhoti crossing. There are good trail crossing signposts on both
sides of the road. If you go over to the signpost on the left and look straight up the
mountain, you'll see an old grown up road bed that goes up 0.4 miles to the tower site.

Horn Mountain Tower
Location: Section 4 (on trail)

AL 77. Turn left. Go 5.5 miles to USFS 600. Turn right (this is a big dirt road that goes
straight up the mountain). The Tower is 4.2 miles south on USFS 600 at good dirt road on
the right with a big yellow gate (locked). The tower is a couple hundred yards up the hill.

Hollins Tower
Location: Section 3
Trail Mile: appx 33.3
Elevation: 1523
Status: Missing

This Tower is now a shortened display tower at the Talladega Ranger District Work
Center on the east side of downtown Talladega, AL 21.

Driving Directions:

Rebecca Mountain Tower
Location: Section 3 (off trail)
Trail Mile: appx. 25.0
Elevation: 1410
Status: Missing

Driving Directions:
Not sure when this tower went missing. A couple of friends bushwhacked across the ridge
one day and guesstimated that the tower site is about 2 miles east of USFS 603 and
topozone.com verifies this location. Driving / walking into this site will not be an easy
proposition as some bushwhacking will be required.

Exit I ~ 20 at AL 21, in Oxford. Go south about 30 miles to Sylacauga. Once you reach the
Comer Library, on the left at the beginning of the old downtown district, turn left on AL
148. Go appx. 3.9 miles to USFS 675. Turn right. Drive south on USFS 675 appx. 1 mile to
the first locked gate (assume that all gates on this road will be locked). Park your vehicle
here on the side of the road and walk appx. 1/2 mile (about 15 minutes) to the next locked
gate. Now walk another 1/2 mile (about 15 minutes). Then turn left, at an unmarked spot,
and go into the woods. Then bushwhack appx. 1/2 mile due east up to the top of the ridge.
Look for the 4 corner blocks for the tower that are still in place.
