Designated Trail Users
Hikers All of the Pinhoti Trail sections in Alabama and Georgia are open to hikers.
Bikers Non-motorized mountain bikes are allowed on all Georgia sections except: 1. From the 316.1 ~ Bear Creek Loop to the 317.6 ~ Mountaintown Creek Trail. 2. Bikers must use northern route around Keown Falls and Pilcher’s Pond, mile 241.6 to 257.3. 3. From the Georgia state line north to the Jackson Chapel Trailhead. The Alabama sections are not open to bikers.
Horses / Pack Animals Horses / pack animals are allowed on all Georgia sections except: 1. From 269.1 ~ England Spring Gap to 273.1 ~ Dug Gap. 2. Tatum Lead Road to FS 64 in Section 28. 3. Horses / pack animals must use northern route around Keown Falls and Pilcher’s Pond, mile 241.6 to 257.3. 4. From the Georgia state line north to the Jackson Chapel Trailhead. The Alabama sections are not open to horses / pack animals.
Motorized Vehicles Cars, trucks, ORV's, 4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, motorcycles, motorized bicycles - unicycles - tricycles - skateboards - scooters, etc. are not allowed on any Alabama or Georgia sections, except the segments where the Pinhoti Trail follows public roads.
Fair Warning The Pinhoti is a federally designated National Recreation Trail. You will not be able to legally justify being in violation of any of these restrictions. Be mentally prepared beforehand to receive heavy fines and penalties.
