The Turkey Track - 2005
Dec. 4 ~ Loop Hikes Site Map - Three Loop Hike trail guides have been added to the site. Look for the links at the bottom of column 2.
Nov. 30 ~ Trail Guides Site Map - In column 2 under Solo's APT Databook you'll find new printable single page trail guides for each section with both north and south mileages.
Nov. 15 ~ Activity Page Site Map - The Activities page, column 4 under "The HMTC", has been changed to Community Projects. Check out the new monthly work trip schedule!
Oct. 30 ~ No Internet My home internet service will be disconnected tomorrow in order to focus on recent incurred debt (of the vehicular variety). Email responses will probably be on Fridays from my local library. Happy Trails!!
Oct. 26 ~ Health and Safety Page Site Map - Health and Safety page added to site. The link is in column 1 under Alabama Pinhoti Trail.
Sept 30 ~ Able Mall Store Trail mile 57.2 ~ CR 24 Crossing Able Mall convenience store, 1.4 miles east on CR 24, has re-opened.
Sept 28 ~ Photo Host Site Map - I found a new photo host that I like more than the old one. The slide show feature seems to work a LOT better! You can also click on any photo during the slide show to see where the shot was taken. Look for the link in the fourth column under HMTC Misc.
Sept. 15 ~ New Web Page - Section 9 Site Map - I've added a new page to this site titled "About Section 9". Look for the link in the first column under Alabama Pinhoti Trail. The top of the page is a good lesson on how not to create a panoramic photo!
Sept. 11 ~ 3 New Trail Shelters Word from Big H at the Shoal Creek Work Center is that Oakey Mountain is the first in line for one of the 3 new Pinhoti shelters. The access route for hauling in materials to this site is an old woods road / fire break and is by far the most challenging of the three and will require a lot of work.
Sept. 6 ~ Cafe Press Store Site Map - Busy, busy... If you look at the bottom of column 4, under HMTC Misc., you'll find the link to an online store that I set up at Cafe Press today. This is just another one of my seemingly endless zero profit (mis) adventures : ) The photo that I used is one I shot in Section 9 this past spring. At that time I was informed that the Long Leaf Pine (Alabama state tree) goes through several stages over a period of 2 years to develop a Cone. I thought this photo vividly captured an early stage. Hope you find something you like.
Sept. 4 ~ Online Trail Journals Site Map - I have set up a space that I call APT Trail Journals Online for anyone interested in publishing their Pinhoti experience. The link to it is on the site map, 2nd column, down near the bottom. At this stage, I'm assuming that the bulletin board format will work well for journals in that it will allow folks to make comments or to ask you questions about your hike, terrain, conditions, camps, water, gear and other stuff. The site also lets you come back later and edit your journal or add / subtract things too. You may also want to consider saving your journal on your computer or a CD, just to be on the safe side...
July 16 ~ Section 13 Trail Construction New Pinhoti Trail construction begins between AL / GA state line and Cave Spring, GA.
July 9 ~ 3 New Trail Shelters Construction of 3 new trail shelters at Choccolocco Watershed, North Dugger Mountain and Oakey Mountain will begin in the near future. Funding is in place, all of the required site surveys have been completed and the bidding process has begun.
June 15 ~ Trail Mile Changes All of the trail mileages listed on this site have been updated to reflect the recent addition of Section 9 to the southern end of the Pinhoti.
June 10 ~ USFS Changing of the Guard Ranger Earl Stewart, Shoal Creek District Ranger, and Ranger Tim Slone, who carried too many titles to list here, will be leaving the Talladega National Forest in mid July. The hiking community would like to express our gratitude for all that you guys have done on our behalf and wish you the very best in the future. Thanks Guys!
May 28 ~ Internet Access Solo regains internet access after 2 months without!
Mar. 19 ~ Section 9 Trail Construction Trails Unlimited completes Section 9! As agreed, the crew bulldozed 14.56 miles of the 18 mile distance during their 40 day contract and they did a great job, leaving only 3.44 miles for local clubs to hand build.
April ~ Stiches Stitches -l-l-l-l-l-l- AT 99 on the Pinhoti.
